"Plugins" are a bad word ;-P 
Normally stands for code snippests which into an application and
changes its flow in dubios ways ... exactly the opposite of 
modular programming ;-o

What you probably need is starting some command with the current
dir as parameter in background. Shouldnt be that hard to implement.
