Interesting. Indeed I also observe an increase of the processing time
for the "light" version (not for the other 2 though, and %H vs. %h does
not make any difference). Not as dramatic as in your case though, "only"
a factor 3, but definitely worth investigating.
It also noticed the implementation using Date::Parse is about 3 times
faster than the implementation using Date::Manip. Can you confirm that
this is also the case on your system? In that case it probably makes
sense to move the Date::Parse implementation to the front.
