Fixed in CVS. Only modifiers from the key sequences should be applied to ordinary characters (i.e. Escape O becomes Alt-O). Modifiers from the OS should be ignored, because nobody should care what modifiers were actually used as long as the result is a printable character.
It's a very serious bug. It may justify another prerelease, but I'll wait to see if any other serious bugs are reported.

Original Submission: In the Spanish keyboard I have an AltGr key which is used to form some esential characters:
AltGr+º=\
+1=|
+2=@
+3=#
...
It worked in:
GNU Midnight Commander 2002-12-19-23
It doesn't now:
GNU Midnight Commander 2002-12-26-16
It's for Linux console. I tried in X terminals and some of them work.
