the project maintainers, the release team and others volunteers add the
data.

The only stuff that's more current, AFAIK, is the announcement mailing
list:

 http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-announce-list/

and the NEWS and LOG files from the releases. However, all of these
sources are usually very cryptic. It's easier to use the ReleaseNotes
page and proceed from there.
