Re: Mass Deployment of GNOME in schools in Macedonia

Arangle:

This reads great. Couple of very interesting quotes about why the
country's public school system is going for FOSS -- not because it's
free but because they want their students to hack into codes and learn
from that.

I think this is one of the key messages that we as well as other FOSS
projects should try and convey. I remember an ad about Tata Iron and
Steel -- the second largest steel company in India. The ad talked
about TISCO's chartiable givings, corporate culture, etc. but
mentioned nothing about steel making for the first 50 seconds. It ends
with a quote: "We also make steel."

I think, if we start emphasizing on the benefits of open source and
then add the fact that it's free, it would have a greater impact.

No more suggestions from me, although I think it would be great to do
a follow-up with this guy and see if the teachers and students had any
teething trouble and if so, how much time it took them to overcome it.
Plus, try and get some politician for a Q&A.

Cheers,

Rajiv
