Danilo,
great, I hope it turns out to be as easy as you believe !
one of the things we need to keep in mind here is that this api should
also be used by the "Language and Culture Capplet" so that this data can
be configured. In this context , one of the challenges will be to get
app owners to take ALL their data from the api. At the moment they use
message files for their date and time formats (of which some apps have
many) and take other data from glibc. We need them to make the switch to
the new api so that this data can then be made configurable. This is the
reason why I raised my original concern.
thx
Peter

Basically, the way to do it would be something like we providing clean

help a lot in this. ;-)
Yeah, I don't expect any problems from maintainers. If we can clearly
demonstrate advantages that using such a library brings, it's easy to
get them to buy in. And there are also some developers on this list
already (Christian "chpe" Persch of Epiphany fame) which are certainly
going to help us here. :)
I.e. we'll be reporting bugs about that stuff (there are already quite
a few bugs like that which sit open simply because it's currently
impossible to resolve them in a nice, clean way), and we already know
that GTP is able to influence Gnome in significant ways :)
Cheers,
Danilo
