There is not for now precise plan about the API changes.
In the next releases, it will change for sure, and quite much, but the general
design will remain the same (I mean people who used previous releases
shouldn't be disturbed with the new API).
About API staying stable, we should have something quite stable by the end of
the year (I hope), although some feature may be added after that.
