Hello Everyone!
Now that everything over, I wanted to recognize people for their hard work on this conference. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this conference was a success based on the comments we've received from our sponsors and our attendees.
It wouldn't have been, if there wasn't a solid set of people who came together with the drive, spirit and dedication to make this work.
Thanks to Tom, Alexandre, and Patrick we had an amazing website and registration service with great support from Patrick. Tom, that last minute design work on
lasreg.gnome.org was freaking epic, right before our deadline! Same thing with all the changes that was made to
las.gnome.org over time and the work on the speakers list and all of that. You were always there Alexandre ready to help make the website as best as can be. We are really proud of the work the two of you have done. Patrick, thank you for resolving all our problems, and being patient as part of being our infrastructure guy. We can't thank you enough, we forget that some of the most important people in our team are the people doing the silent work of supporting our infrastructure and services and keeping them up 24/7. Thank you, Patrick.
Andreas, thank you for coming up with our conference logo, it's too bad you couldn't have been with us at Tillicum Crossing bridge with us last weekend and been on that bridge in person!
The quality of our talks could not have been achieved without the people on the talks team who managed the submitted talks and came up with a set of talks that was absolutely amazing. Meg, Cosimo, Phillip, and Robert, thanks for all your amazing work! Meg and Robert, once you see the videos, you'll know what an amazing job you all did on this. A fabulous job. Thank you!
Kat, thank you so much for working on the design of lanyard and getting it to us before the conference. You did great work, and thank you for taking the interest and making it happen! We were able to get something out there and workable. Brilliant!
Carla (by Adelia) - Thank you for the fantastic design on our banners, your work was front and center and you should be proud of it, we certainly are! :-) I hope you will continue to be a part of GNOME even after your internship.
Danielle - thank you for all your advice on conference organizing, I'm glad that you brought up items that we did not think about, your focus on attendee experience, identifying the pitfalls, and keeping us on the safe and narrow. I think largely we accomplished that as seen from the people who came every day to see the talks.
Justin - thank you for being my right hand man, and helping me out with the marketing and being the person I could bounce ideas off of, and of course your work in marketing and otherwise. I hope that you will continue to hang out with us and join our engagement team and keep going!
Teresa, thanks so much for helping me with the budget, going through the venue and being my offisite memory when I can't remember things. :-) Also for just being my friend and helping me out! I hope you have the time to also join our engagement team and hang out with us every Friday morning!
Cory - My man! Thank you so much for all your help with getting our wireless setup and being our conduit (pun intended?) with DSIStream, taking an interest in the video recordings, and jury rigging that recording setup in an hour before the conference started. There was no way we would have been able to do that ourselves. Your continuing work to get the videos out with sponsor logos is nothing short of astonishing. Thank you!
Doug - thank you for the initial seed money. I would never have started this journey without that backing. I hope for the future we can have that U.S. openSUSE codesprint! In general, openSUSE's support of this conference has been absolutely fantastic! Thank you! :)
I'd like to thank the GNOME Board of Directors for giving me a ear, and taking a risk on LAS GNOME. For being our bedrock, safety net and for being so supportive of us.
And finally, Nuritzi, Rosanna, and Adelia who formed the core of the team who were there every week to discuss the issues, resolve the problems, manage all the tasks, and getting them done, a big huge thank you for your time and commitment to this conference in the midst of your jobs and other commitments. A special thanks to Cassandra who was there for part of it as well. :)
The success of this conference belongs to all of you, and all your hard work. It paid off, and you should all be proud of yourselves in what you've achieved.
I hope all of you will stay on and be part of next year's organizing committee as we build on the success of this one and make it even better than this one.
I've spent some time thinking of all the contributors, and I hope I have not missed mentioning any of you. I will happy do an addendum if you contact me in private.
Again, thank you. Let's get cracking on fundraising for next year!!
LAS GNOME 2017!
