In SVN the volume sliders are in an expander. You can click a button on 
the toolbar to show them. Try it out and tell us if this is what you 
were thinking of.

As for the patch, I commented on the bug in launchpad and instead of 
repeating myself I invite everyone to read it and post their opinions.
