Re: [jokosher-devel] website update

Heya,

I understand that you don't like the "Help Button" but it is well known that
you only have a few seconds to get the user sent in the right direction and
as I know from my frustration all too often sites fail at this first step.
Help on the bar is good but the "Help Button" sends anybody frustrated and
about to give up in the right direction without having to read the bar. They
should then be taken to a list of common early problems; FAQs are to general
and you get lost in the noise. Link back to the FAQs and anything else for
further information are however very helpful.

I never said I didn't like it. Its not on the current site because I
just didn't get round to it. :P

I will look into adding it. :)

A good way to categorise the common early problems is by the error messages
received by the user (hopefully he will get some) because that is the way
the problem is seen. I expect the list of known installation problems will
grow quit quickly but will remain relatively short. Clear and precise
answers to specific questions will help everybody resolve the issues
quickly. An email address or a form to ask specific questions on would make
it even more helpful for the lost and blind, me included. The question page
should also encourage the novice into providing the right information,
remember he may have installed "Ubuntu 5" just so he can have Jokosher and
he probably doesn't know anything about Gstreamer and Gnonlin.

Yeah, and understanding expected problems is an iterative proces - we
need to understand the common stumbling blocks and errors that people
face when using Jokosher. The forums will be a brilliant source for
this kind of data. :)

 Jono
