install improvement and gtk+ 2.12-2.16 question

Hi,

So I checked out a hamster a long time ago, and didn't use it for
very long, but I now find myself really needing to keep track of
what I'm working on, and I'm glad to see how far it's come along!

I think that the installations instructions should be updated to
omit the trailing '/' in the autogen prefix, like so:

./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
--with-gconf-schema-file-dir=/usr/share/gconf/schemas/

    Having the --prefix=/usr*/* caused the

glib.GError: Failed to open file
‘/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/data/applet.ui’: No such file or
directory

that YH reported on the wordpress blog, because runtime.data_dir
gets set to a nonsensical value due to string comparison returning
    false on line 49

if os.path.realpath(__file__).startswith(defs.PYTHONDIR):

    (because the realpath(__file__) started with
    "/usr//lib/python2.5/..." not "/usr/lib/python2.5".

Now I get GError: Unhandled tag: 'requires' - because I'm on Hardy
with gkt+ 2.12. It looks like the 2.16 dependency went in recently
    (November 25th) - is there a fundamental reason why I can't use
2.12, or is there some workaround?

best,
Paul Ivanov
