I actually did look into getting Gnome socks made one year (about 10
years ago). It was too expensive for me to bankroll as an individual,
but quite doable for Gnome.  The pattern would be woven in (the Gnome
Foot and the word GNOME on the ankle, of course, pink or brown on a
black sock).

A thing to watch for (and my real reason for writing) is that you have
to get them made in the US in order to avoid shipping/border problems --
importing cotton goods into the US, there were (and probably still are)
trade restrictions, which usually means an extra tax + unpredictable
delays at the border.  I planned to get them made in the US, ship some
of them to wherever the event was, and keep the rest for other events.
