Although we should always feel free to think different and not simply ape them, if you look at the big conferences like OSCON and Linuxworld, apart from the dates and speakers the sites are virtually identical each year (from memory anyway, I didn't check wayback machine). I would prefer we spent time fixing things that need fixing (e.g. site navigation) or developing things relevant to Birmingham (travel info, directions, etc), rather than things that don't, like the logo.

Actually I also agree here. I have always felt that waiting for a logo
competition to be able to start up the next GUADEC website was not
right.

If it has been decided to go for the same logo in order to brand GNOME
and its users and developers conference, I think it is a wise decision.
Sorry if I have missed that such a decision has been taken.

Or for that matter t-shirt designs, presentation templates, audio adverts (to be 'inserted' in podcasts), or video adverts (for YouTube, Blip.tv, etc), that are 'Made in Gnome' (i.e. using Gnome related tools, e.g. Gimp, Inkscape, Abiword, OOo, Jokosher, TamTam, Pitivi, Diva, etc). This is an idea Thomas, Bastien, and I talked about, but we thought now isn't the time to do this.

My point remains that with more time it is more likely we get some fine
bids on the 'marketing collatoral' that determines the Birmingham 2007
identity.

A call for this material could start soon.

There will be enough to take care of in the months right before the
GUADEC.

Finding good prices for printing etc. is also easier when we have more
time at our hands.

Kind regards

Anne
