Thank you for your suggestion.
Unfortunately it did not work, and there were many runtime (error?)
messages of the form
(IQApp:20626): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_get_mapped: assertion
`GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
