The documentation and examples are in a separate package.  Far from 
being a Win- based library, from the MinGW developer's comments on the 
list, I think gtkmm remains firmly Linux- oriented.

If you're using ubuntu, you're probably best off installing via the 
package manager rather than the tarball ( and don't forget to get the 
gtkmm-documentation package as well ).
