No, actually, the having the method static or not is not the problem, or having a write my own constructors for that matter. Humm, no, the class in question is not a singleton; since the derived class can be instantiated multiple times inside any object.
The terminology above is all basic C++ stuff. If you don't want to learn
C++ terminology, you will have a hard time as your tasks get more
complex.
