have you looked at Glib::Dir?
http://www.gtkmm.org/docs/glibmm-2.4/docs/reference/html/classGlib_1_1Dir.html
It's pretty simple, but used with other general file-related Glib
functions, it might do what you want.

Alternatively, you could also look at boost::filesystem
