gtkmm visual editor

Hello.

 I have to write some visual editor. About year ago start this project
using C and gnome-canvas. But it wasn't good idea. Now I decide to use
designed patterns and c++ code. But canvas is my big problem. I realize
there is Gnome::Canvas class. My principle task for now is take data
form xm files and create structure of it in canvas. If I think right
there are are canvas widgets that are build on the gtktree. If somebody
have code which  do that task, please send me it or info there I can
find. I have done already parsing xml file but I don't want build
another gtkTree or choode some designed patterns.
