Murray,

The 2.9.7 tar balls are OK:

* download both .gz and .bz2
* unpack each in a separate location
* use 'diff -r' to compare the two ==> the trees are identical

A few other classes have gained new base classes (implementing new
GInterfaces). I've added TODOs in the code.
