Ok, it seems this bug is not limited to MSVC.

For a discussion of the standards

http://groups.google.be/groups?hl=en&lr=&selm=3D6418B6.2080800%40o.ca

Karl Nelson submitted a bug ages ago against gtk-- and gcc-2.95.2 (which was
fixed in gcc-3.0)

http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-bugs/2000-06/msg00578.html

More importantly, The MSVC developing team is aware of the problem

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/viewfeedback.aspx?feedbackid=2cf13d49-af0f-49bc-baa1-403ebf5085c8

I guess there is nothing else we can do except to redirect gtkmm+MSVC potential
users to this workaround

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/ViewWorkaround.aspx?FeedbackID=FDBK13535#1

which is definitively ugly...

I have added a short description of Gtk::manage() to the Basics, Widgets
section, with a link to the Memory Management chapter. That should deal with
everything.

Thanks for pointing this stuff out.

Currently the only way to remove text items is to manipulate the model and
upcast it to a Gtk::ListStore. This would allow removing of text items without
exposing the implementation.

I am using the following code to create a Gtk::TreeModelFilter from a liststore
which has no rows.

    m_ListStoreRef = Gtk::ListStore::create(m_Columns);
    Gtk::TreeModel::Path m_ListStoreRootPath;
    m_ListStoreRootPath.clear();
    assert(m_ListStoreRootPath.empty());
    m_TreeModelFilterRef = Gtk::TreeModelFilter::create(m_ListStoreRef,
m_ListStoreRootPath);

However the Gtk::TreeModelFilter::create spits out "glibmm-WARNING **:
Glib::ConstructParams::ConstructParams(): object class
`gtkmm__GtkTreeModelFilter' has no property named `root'" at runtime.

I have experienced traansient crashes that I believe are due to this. I believe
a work around would be to create the TreeModelFilter from
gtk_tree_model_filter_new () and setting the path argument to NULL, but I have
not tested this.
