Hi Rod,

It would help if you included things like the version numbers of the
packages you have installed, and the ones you are trying to install.
(Also the ones you need to install, if different.)

gtkmm-1.x and gtkmm-2.x are not the same. If you need 1.x, you can find
an rpm version for SuSE9.1 on http://www.rpmfind.net/ which you may find
easier to install.

If you still want to install from source, and are having trouble please
include the version numbers and the error messages you are seeing.
There's not a lot we can do to with a report that just says "it does not
work".
