Hi,
Just adding my two cents here,
I disagree that this would be a major problem; most of the users I
interact with are aware that software labeled as "gnome" does not
require one to use the whole gnome ball of wax. Even the gtk mailing
list archives and bugtracker are hosted on gnome.org.
Moreso, by having it be a Gnome module, it might increase the widespread
adoption of the extension.
I agree with Eric that Gnome integration would be much better than no
integration at all. Also, historically many of the now standard GTK+
widgets started their life as GNOME GTK+ extensions. For a recent
example see:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/gtk-migrating-GtkIconView.html
So 'Gnome widget' does not necessarily mean 'GTK+ widget depending on
the Gnome libraries', even less so when the developers of the widget are
aware of the issue.
cheers
Stephane
