Well. For what it's worth, which may not be much, I'd like to help in some way, too.  I've lurked on this list for over 2 years now, and I have a half-finished 3d gnu-chess interface that I thought I might dust off and try to fix up for use with gnome 2.12. 
I haven't programmed for over a year, as it's just a hobby, but if some kind of team assembles to keep this project alive, I'd like to volunteer.
