Re: pango required (was "Re: gtkdatabox-0.8.0.0 released")

I usually use the pkg-config tool for compilation and check for packages using it in autoconf.  To check for pango and cairo in your configure script add:

PKG_CHECK_MODULES(PANGO, pango,,exit)
PKG_CHECK_MODULES(CAIRO, cairo,,exit)

to configure.ac, then run autoconf and it should fix the configure script automatically.
Otherwise you gotta do something tedious like add:

AC_CHECK_LIB(<lib>,<function>,
,AC_MSG_ERROR([could not link to library xxx.]))

to configure.ac where lib is the actual linker library name and function is a function, an example would be to check for cos function in mathlib:
AC_CHECK_LIB(m,cos,,AC_MSG_ERROR([could not link to mathlib.]))

If I am stating the obvious here I'm sorry, I'm new to autotools for software development and I just learned this stuff a few days ago so that I can release my code soon at http://sourceforge.net/projects/brp-pacu

hope this helps

Dear Eric,

thanks for the hint!

Actually I thought that if gtk+-2.8 is there, then pango and cairo would
automatically be present in the appropriate versions, too. If that is
not the case, such information has to be added, of course.

@ALL: I would also like to add checks for pango and cairo to the
configure script, but I am not very knowledgeable there. Can anybody
help me out?

Regards,

Roland
