app running as log server

Hi, I need to write a log server that is going to show the log at the same 
time. Should I use select or use POE (which is very badly documented) ?

PS if some are interrested in testing and giving some feedback, I can make 
this app generic so other can use it. If there is interrest I'll write down a 
specification. So far I haven't decided about the format for the protocol yet 
so ideas are welcome too.
