Is there a downloadable distribution that can be seen as a good

i personally use gtk2-perl on RedHat 8.0 (yes, currently :-/), FC1,
FC2, FC3, and Mac OS 10.3.6 with Fink. just a few months ago i had it
running on vanilla win2k. several others on the list and development
team use various versions of debian. i also run gtk2-perl against
gnome cvs.

i installed debian and it installs OK.
But, sometimes when i run the install program it fails.
when i remove the -init part there is no problem.
Could this be a serious issue?

-init calls all of the display initialization code (as well as a few other
things.) removing it would probably get rid of the display failures, but i
would expect to see other things go wrong afterwards.

Wim.

possible causes are bad values in the DISPLAY env variable. in sufficent
permissions to access the display (not file permessions, but xhost.) bugs in
the gtk+ family. whatever the cause it's not likely a problem with the perl
bindings.
