the package's name is capitalized -- your command would've missed it.

on my rh8 system:

tetsuo:~/public_html/galleries/twins/02/tummy_time$ rpm -q gtk-perl
package gtk-perl is not installed
tetsuo:~/public_html/galleries/twins/02/tummy_time$ rpm -q Gtk-Perl
Gtk-Perl-0.7008-25
