Trying to build gtkperl 0.7008 on a Mandrake 9.0 system (maybe that's my
problem...) I'm getting a couple of problems, one non-fatal, the other
definitely fatal.
While running perl Makefile.PL I get an error during the documentation
creation "Can't locate XML/Writer.pm in @INC [...] at ../tools/gendoc.pl line
4.
As that just appears to be a problem with documentation, which I can live
with, I carried on to do a make, but then got the following errors:
"gcc: xs/GtkMenuBar.o: No such file or directory" which is repeated for a
large number of files in xs and then a few in build. Then compilation bails
out with "make[1]: *** [../blib/arch/auto/Gtk/Gtk.so] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/Gtk-Perl-0.7008/Gtk'
make: *** [subdirs] Error 2"
The build process hadn't even created the directories, never mind files within
them.
I managed to get an older tarball (0.7006) and got exactly the same errors.
I have a suspicion that this might be a compiler incompatibility (Mandrake 9.0
use GCC 3.2.)
Any suggestions gratefully recieved. I did originally have gtkperl running on
my old Mandrake 8.2 system, which I backed-up before building the new system.
Perhaps it might be possible to copy the necessary files from the backup if
anybody can give me an idea which files I need to copy; my main concern at
present is to get some of my Perl apps working again rather than getting the
latest version (I can worry about that in the future.)
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Tony
