what files are accessed by a gtk app?

I'm writing an app. that doesn't use a window manager and I'm wondering what
files it uses for it's theme?  I can load gnome and change the theme and
then close gnome and load my app and it has that theme.  i'm wondering what
file it's accessing for its appearance values.
