.jhbuildrc-custom isn't shell, it's python. That line by itself looks fine, so the problem is likely to be something with the preceding two lines. Indentation might be a problem though the python compiler usually says "unexpected indent" in that case. A spelling error wouldn't raise an error, it would just define a new variable.
