Sounds like a path issue....

what does your autoconf --version say.

bash-3.2$ autoconf --version
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.63


then what does which autoconf say

bash-3.2$ which autoconf
/Users/shawn/gtk/inst/bin/autoconf
