pangocairo make error

Hullo users,
I am having a problem with installing pangocairo 1.28.4 for rrdtool
1.4.7 it is giving me the error below
./pango/.libs/libpangocairo-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`cairo_ft_font_face_create_for_pattern'
../pango/.libs/libpangocairo-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`cairo_ft_font_options_substitute'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Could anyone out there help on fixing this .
