How to get Width and height..

Hi all,

         Is there any way to get the screen resolution(monitor) in 
gtk..?? or is there any way to get the size of the maximized gtk 
window(gtk widget) in gtk.
         I tried with gtk_window_get_default_size and 
gtk_window_get_size.. But I didn't get the expected result..

please guide me...
