GtkCellRendererText text offset

I have a GtkCellRendererText and by default it's rendering text with
an offset of about 22 pixels from the left part of the cell.  If I get
the xpad property, it's value is 2, so I'm wondering why there might
be some extra offset and how to either change it or get its value.
Could there be some property of the Pango font description?
