Trouble with GtkImage on button press event!

I need to capture the button press event on a GtkImage widget, and I  use the
following code:

	w = lookup_widget(MainWnd,"image1");
	gtk_widget_add_events(w, GDK_BUTTON_PRESS_MASK	);

and I mapped the "Button press event" using glade, but it never worked.
Anyone knows why?
