I see that there was an effort to enable
Gtk use DirectFB (on the DirectFB projects web page). I also notice
that it looks several years old. Is there any ongoing effort there? Is
it needed? I'm not alltogether clear on how DirectFB relates to Gtk or
X11. Also, I haven't been able to get the frame buffer device mapped to the filesystem. I used mknod to create /dev/fb0, but I can't figure how to actually get that mapped to the actual framebuffer. Is there a utitlity for that? I'm on FC4. For testing and using the framebuffer is it better to launch into init:3 rather than straight into Xwindows? I've been looking for documentation on framebuffers online for days and have found very little and it seems old and not for those who don't already have a lot of knowledge about linux.
