Trying to install

I’m new to linux, so please bear with me. I have SUSE 9.2 and I downloaded gtk+-2.6.4.tar.gz.

I extracted the files and typed ./configure.

It ran a while then I got :

checking for glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0    atk >= 1.0.1    pango >= 1.8.0... Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0' but version of GLib is 2.4.6

configure: error: Library requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0    atk >= 1.0.1    pango >= 1.8.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

What do I need to do to fix this? Or how do I use GTK without compiling it? It is mentioned in the install instructions but not how to install without compiling.

Thanks

Ringo
