[gtk+-2.6.7] configure problem

Hi, all: 

I am try to compile gtk+-2.6.7 from src. When I was doing "./configure", it told me this:

configure: WARNING: *** TIFF loader will not be built (TIFF library not found) ***
configure: error:
*** Checks for TIFF loader failed. You can build without it by passing
*** --without-libtiff to configure but some programs using GTK+ may
*** not work properly
----------------------------------------

Ok, I went to download libtiff 3.7.2 from ftp://ftp.remotesensing.org/pub/libtiff, and compiled, installed it to "/usr/local". 

Then I did "./configure", but the error message is still the same. 
"./configure --with-tiff=/usr/local" is no use, either. 

Anyone can help?
