Sven,
I do use the precompiled rpms. But the glib2-2.4.1.rpm did complain about
the devel of 2.2.1.
And I do compile quite a bit in my daytime job, however I did not plan to
get all the way there with that gimp install, because I just want to be a
simple user of an application. The install process is requesting these
source installs, it's not my choice.
So to answer your question, I would like to stick to precompiled binaries,
but they don't seem to work.
I have absolutely no special setup which would cause special treatment, a
basic PC running basic RedHat trying to run basic gimp 2. not much to ask.
The Gimp 1.2 that comes with RedHat is running just fine.
Cheers
Andreas

You said you want to compile it. Thus you will need the header files
which is what the development packages provide.
I told you already that it's best for you not to attempt to compile
GIMP from source since apparently you don't know much about compiling
software. So why don't you just stick to precompiled binaries?
