help: error when compiling

hello, when I compile pango1.2.1, it shows the
following error:

./.libs/libpangoft2-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`FT_Seek_Stream'
./.libs/libpangoft2-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`FT_Get_Short'
./.libs/libpangoft2-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`FT_Forget_Frame'
./.libs/libpangoft2-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`FT_Access_Frame'
./.libs/libpangoft2-1.0.so: undefined reference to
`FT_Get_Long'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

why it happens?
