Behaviour of item selection within a gtklist

What is the precise behaviour regarding the selection of items and the
insertion of gtklistitems. If I insert an item in to a browse selection
mode list, should that item now be selected. Is there any situation
where if an unselected item is inserted in to a list that it will then
become selected?
