clist example core dumps

I'm trying to get Gtk+ 1.2.8 to work on Solaris 2.5.1 which is using
X11R5. Everything compiles ok (using gcc 2.95.2 and gmake 3.79) but when
I try to run the clist example to core dumps directly. The backtrace
looks like this:

(gdb) r

Does anyone know about a fix for this error? I can't use anything that
uses clist right now.
