Technical Help !!

hi,
i am trying to install gimp but first i tried to install gtk but i always 
get the same error while running ./configure which is:


checking for working aclocal... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... missing
checking host system type... mips-sgi-irix6.5
checking for ranlib... :
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... cc
checking whether the C compiler (cc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot 
create executables.


i have installed c compiler with a license recently  but the same error 
still comminh up.
my system is SGI O2 ruuning irix 6.5.6m
gtk version is:1.0.2
gimp version is:1.0.4
