gtk---0.99.1 => 1.0.0

We're planning to release gtk-- 1.0 within the next two days. The current
release gtk---0.99.1 will be renamed to gtk---1.0.0, assuming no
problems are found with the distribution.

Please check it out with every compiler and platform you can find and
report us about successes and failures in installing it.

Replies will be collected to the web site and supported compilers will
be listed.
 
There will be no further changes to gtk-- code prior to release; only
compilation problems that require no difficult code changes will be
fixed before the 1.0 release.
