Before you try to install GTK+, make sure you have a proper version of GLIB
installed. When you ran configure for GTK+, I would be willing to bet you
received an error message regarding GLIB. Don't forget about setting the
library path variable as previously mentioned for GLIB as well, and
the --prefix option.

Once you have GLIB successfully installed, then try installing GTK+. It also
wouldn't be a bad idea to pipe the output of the configure to a file for
later review.
