No. Though it was what I was hoping for. ;-)
Probably, either the fontpath in your XFree86Config
is incorrect, or somehow your font directories were
corrupted. (You can run rpm -V on the font RPM's
to check the latter)
I've committed a fix to GTK+ that it will fall back
to "fixed" if it can't find the default helvetica.
I've been assured that if "fixed" is not present,
the X server will not even start.
"fixed" is sort of ugly though, so you probably want
figure out what is wrong...
