I assume that by "pretends to be 14" you mean that GTK+-1.1.15
creates a shared library named libgtk-1.1.so.14.0.1.
That is correct. GTK+-1.1.15 is binary compatible with 1.1.14,
so gets the same shared library major number.
You should be happy you don't have to recompile all your
applications.
