autoconf/m4 troubles

Developing a GTK/GNOME app... the code is done, but I'm having
a few problems with autoconf.  I've seen messages posted about
such problems here before, so I figured I'd share my problem. :)

I've created the configure.in and the Makefile.am files in all 
relevent directories, I've run aclocal.  After I run aclocal, 
I run autoconf and get an error saying something like this:
(don't have the exact error message right now)

m4: maximum recursion limit of 250 exceeded, use -L<N> to override

I have *no* idea why this is happening.  It hasn't happened on
any other apps I've done, and the configure and makefile macros
don't differ at all between any of my projects.

Any ideas?
