what keeps its size when hidden ?

i have an event box. i add an arrow to it. when i hide the arrow,
the event box size drops to zero.

i pack the arrow into a HBox, and then add the HBox. hide the arrow,
same thing happens.

i try with a VBox. same thing.

what can i put the arrow into so that when i hide the arrow, the event
box will keep its size ?
