GTK 1.1.2 - GDK fails with SIGSEGV

Hi,
  i have installed both GTK 1.0.6 (libs only) and GTK 1.1.2 with GLib
1.1.3. However, the example programs fail with 

    Gdk-Message:
    ** ERROR **: sigsegv caught

  I am using Debian/GNU Linux 2.0, Kernel 2.0.35. I

    libglib-1.1.so.3.0.0
    libgtk-1.1.so.2.0.0
    libgdk-1.1.so.2.0.0
    libgmodule-1.1.so.3.0.0
